‘Captain Phillips Shootout’ Promotion at L.A. Kings Game May Not Be in Best Taste (Photo)

Hockey fans, however, should be shaking their heads.

The Los Angeles Kings and the makers of the new Tom Hanks film, Captain Phillips, found what they thought was a clever way to combine their two products for Wednesday night’s game against the Ottawa Senators. The Staples Center ran a promotion for a shootout — sponsored by a movie about Somali pirates wielding guns in which those captured were lucky to escape with their lives.

Ah, whatever. Hanks made it out OK, and the world can think that “rapid fire shootout” is a thing that’s barely more dangerous than flying pucks.
