Mike MathenyWhat did Quincy ever do to you, Mike Matheny? Well, except for leave you stranded miles away from the city and needing a long cab ride to get in for the World Series, that is.

This World Series is being billed as a repeat of sorts for the Red Sox and the Cardinals, who met in the 2004 Fall Classic. While there’s little overlap from the teams that played each other that year, one holdover for the Cards is happy that St. Louis has changed its housing plans this time around.

“I think we were staying in Connecticut last time,” said Matheny, the St. Louis manager, who was the catcher on the 2004 squad, of the Cardinals’ 2004 accommodations, which were actually in Quincy. “Boston is a beautiful city, especially this time of year, and I think we’re all very happy to stay nice and close this time. It was about an $80 cab ride in ’04.”

Depending on when St. Louis tried to book rooms in 2004, it may have run into some kind of student/tourist/convention crowd in the Hub, but at least the $80 cab ride into the city wouldn’t have meant fighting Cape traffic.

These out-of-towners sure are picky sometimes.
