After sporting his old Phoenix Coyotes-themed goalie mask throughout the preseason, new Bruins netminder Chad Johnson will now have a more consistent look when he makes his regular-season debut.
Johnson, who replaces Anton Khudobin as Tuukka Rask‘s backup in Boston, will bring a rather straightforward mask to the ice this season. The white mask features the Bruins’ spoked-B primary logo on one side and the team’s secondary logo on the other, with “Cheevers 30” printed in script on the back plate as a nod to legendary Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers.
Johnson says he likes to have an active role in creating what he’ll wear in net.
“Some guys like [Providence Bruins goalie Niklas] Svedberg are a little laid back about it, but I’m pretty hands on with my mask,” he told CSNNE.com’s Joe Haggerty. “I just told him I wanted trim on the outside with a Bruins logo that’s big enough you can see it from far away. I’m pretty much stuck with the 1990s look with the big logos on both sides and the trim all around it.”
