A lot can change in a span of two weeks in the NFL, and Vikings backup quarterback Christian Ponder knows that all too well.
Ponder was sitting comfortably in the starter spot until two weeks ago, when he went out with a rib injury and backup Matt Cassel stepped in. Since then, the team has brought embattled QB Josh Freeman into the mix, and the new depth chart scenario is something that Ponder is going to have to get used to.
“Some of the dynamics of this organization have changed obviously with bringing in Josh,” Ponder told 1500ESPN.com. “I would be lying if I didn’t say it was a little bit disappointing and frustrating.”
Ponder is fully healthy after recovering from the injury, but he’s still playing behind Cassel, and general manager Rick Spielman said Freeman will be inactive on Sunday.
It seems as though Ponder’s status with the team is relatively up in the air, even after 29 starts with the team.
“Again, I have no idea what is going to happen. I hope to still be here,” Ponder said. “That’s the front office’s call. You never know, as we’ve seen in the past week, what’s going to happen.”
Ponder has a cap of around $2.8 million this year on his rookie deal that goes through 2014.The third-year quarterback has 691 passing yards and two touchdowns on the season.
