Zdeno Chara, of course, wears the “C” as the team’s captain. One of the two alternate captain “A” patches goes to Patrice Bergeron. That much is essentially set in stone and will likely continue for the foreseeable future. However, Ference had been alternating wearing the second “A” in recent years along with center Chris Kelly. With Ference’s departure, the Bruins had an opportunity to find a new alternate captain.
They have made their decision on who will wear that vacated “A,” and that will be center David Krejci. The 27-year-old is entering his eighth season in the Black and Gold, and he’s known no other franchise. Krejci had been one of the handful of Bruins serving as alternate captain throughout the preseason.
Krejci is coming off a sensational playoff run where he helped the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in three years. He scored nine goals and added 17 assists to lead the league in playoff points with 26. He also led the league in playoff points in 2011 when he helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup.
