Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is among the finalists for the Hank Aaron Award, which is given annually to the best hitter in each league.
Major League Baseball announced all 30 nominees (one from each team) on Monday. The winners are determined by a combination of votes from a group of Hall of Fame players and fans.
Since the creation of the award for the 1999 season, three Red Sox players have won it, including Manny Ramirez (2004), Kevin Youkilis (2008) and Ortiz (2005). If Ortiz wins it again in 2013, he will become the fourth American League player to capture the Hank Aaron Award multiple times.
In 137 games, Ortiz hit 30 home runs, tallied 103 RBIs and batted .309 this season. It was his seventh career season with at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs, tying him with Red Sox legend Ted Williams for the most in team history.
