ortiz1The St. Louis Cardinals evened the 2013 World Series at a game apiece with a 4-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Thursday night.

Matt Holliday‘s triple got the Cardinals offense going in the fourth inning. He blasted a John Lackey pitch to the triangle deep in center field, and then scored on a ground out by Yadier Molina for the first run of the game.

Boston took the lead 2-1 in the sixth inning with a two-run home run from David Ortiz, which landed in the Green Monster seats. The hit got the Fenway crowd on its feet, but the cheers were quickly silenced in the seventh inning when two walks and an error allowed the Cardinals to score three runs in the seventh inning for a 4-2 lead.

From that point, St. Louis’ bullpen shut down the Red Sox lineup to earn an important victory with the series now headed to Busch Stadium for the next three games.

Game 3 is Saturday night.
