John Lackey Will Pitch Game 2 of World Series Versus Cardinals at Fenway Park

The Red Sox will revert back to their ALDS rotation.

John Lackey will pitch Game 2 of the World Series at Fenway Park, likely leaving Clay Buchholz and Jake Peavy to pitch Games 3 and 4, respectively. Lackey pitched Game 2 of the ALDS versus the Rays, but flip-flopped with Buchholz in the ALCS and pitched Game 3 in Detroit.

Farrell said that the decision to pitch Lackey in Game 2 of the World Series against the Cardinals came down to not wanting too much of a layoff between starts for the 34-year-old. Lackey last pitched Oct. 15 in Detroit, while Buchholz started Boston’s pennant-clinching game on Saturday.

Lackey outdueled Tigers ace Justin Verlander in Game 3 of the ALCS in the Motor City, but has had much better results overall at home this season than he’s had away from Fenway Park.

Farrell also announced that he didn’t expect any changes to the Red Sox’ roster for the World Series. It’ll be the same 25 players who were on the roster for the ALDS and ALCS vying for baseball’s ultimate prize.
