World Series Red Sox Cardinals BaseballIt is no accident that Jonny Gomes is penciled into Game 5’s starting lineup.

Gomes, who wasn’t even supposed to start in Game 4, found his way into the starting nine after Shane Victorino was scratched because of lower back tightness, and provided the offensive boost that propelled the Red Sox to the exciting win.

Gomes’ three-run blast led the way on Sunday and manager John Farrell hopes it will lead the way on Monday as well, starting Gomes in left field and having him bat cleanup for Boston.

David Ortiz, who has filled that slot throughout the World Series, moves up a spot in the batting order and will bat third for Boston, starting once again at first base.

As for the rest of the lineup, for the second night in a row David Ross will be the man behind the plate, handling the catching duties with Jon Lester slated to start.
