Garnett and Pierce had brief but pointed words for the Heat star this week after James accused the two of getting a break when they left Boston while former teammate Ray Allen was criticized heavily after departing as a free agent the year before. James suggested a double standard, as Allen has been reviled even though Garnett and Pierce both played a hand in their leaving, too.
Garnett was not terribly concerned with James’ opinion.
“Tell LeBron to worry about Miami,” he said, according to ESPN.com. “It has nothing to do with Celtic business.”
Pierce played coy, falling back on the argument that he was traded with seemingly no say in the decision.
“I left Boston?” he simply asked.
Garnett and Pierce were both critical of Allen for jumping ship on the Big Three before president of basketball operations Danny Ainge finally and completely blew up the team this summer by letting coach Doc Rivers go to the Clippers and trading Garnett and Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets. James pointed that out in his comments this week while also noting that, well, he himself has gotten some criticism for leaving a team once before.
Garnett and Pierce seem perfectly ready to continue the testiness.
Oh, you can never get too carried away.
