APTOPIX NCAA Final Four Michigan Louisville BasketballKevin Ware is officially ready to get back on the basketball court.

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said Friday that the junior guard, who suffered a horrific broken leg during the Cardinals’ Elite Eight win over Duke on March 31, has been medically cleared to practice just six months removed from the injury.

“He has a clean bill of health,” Pitino said, via the Courier-Journal. “He can play all-out at the end of the month.”

“Kevin’s last X-ray … he’s perfectly healed. He’s over it. Now he starts his workout to get back on the basketball court — to move like a basketball player would move.”

Though he has been cleared physically, Pitino says Ware may still have work to do to become mentally ready to return to game action.

The Cardinals kick off their season with the Red & White scrimmage on Saturday, and their national championship defense begins in earnest when they open the regular season against College of Charleston on Nov. 9.
