LeBron James plans to play many more seasons in the NBA before his career is over, but he’s also hoping to try his hand in the NFL, if only for one game.
James has now played 10 NBA seasons, spending his first seven with the Cleveland Cavaliers before signing with the Miami Heat in near destructive fashion three summers ago. In his extensive and impressive career, James has racked up a long list of accomplishments, including nine All-Star game appearances, four MVP trophies and two NBA titles. Before he became the world’s best basketball player, though, James was also a high school football star. And it appears he wants to give it a go on the gridiron one more time.
James took to Twitter for a lengthy Q&A with fans on Friday night, answering a wide array of questions ranging from who he considers his best friend — brownie points for answering “my wife” — to who the funniest Heat players are — Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen were among the winners. One fan dared to ask if he would consider playing another sport at some point, which the star forward responded that he wanted to play in the NFL for one game.

James was an All-State wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School in Akron, Ohio for two years before focusing fully on basketball. He was even receiving scholarship offers from schools, including Ohio State, before ditching out on the sport altogether.
The idea of James and his 6-foot-8, 250-pound frame suiting up on the outside from Tom Brady or Peyton Manning or even Ryan Tannehill — maybe a little Miami bias — is a tantalizing thought, and one that’s been tossed around before. Whether James ever actually follows through with the ambition — there is a lot of risk involved — is to be seen, but the idea in and of itself is almost too good to be true.
