crosbyfinalPittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby is the face of the NHL and a household name that even non-hockey fans recognize.

As someone who has also missed a lot of regular season and playoff games recovering from head injuries over the last few years, Crosby knows all about the dangers of concussions.

During an interview with NBC Sports’ Bob Costas that will be shown on Tuesday night at 11 p.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network, the legendary sportscaster brought up the subject of concussions across all sports, and asked what Crosby’s “level of concern” is regarding this health issue.

“You know what? I’m not that concerned to be honest,” Crosby said. “I think I’m probably more confident than ever that they’ll eventually find ways to help. Whether it’d be prevent them, or to treat them. I think the awareness is at an all-time high now for all sports. Even from young kids I think that they’re more aware of it now. The main thing is that people are educated.”

The NHL has changed quite a bit over the last few seasons in regard to player safety, with several rule changes made to help eliminate the dangerous hits that lead to concussions. Unfortunately, the league has suspended seven players this year, including the preseason, for illegal hits to the head, and it’s not even  November yet. If the NHL is going to ever eliminate all, or most of the hits that cause concussions, the players have to respect their opponents far more than they are now.
