The atmosphere was electric in Pittsburgh on Tuesday for the Pirates’ first home playoff game since 1992, and the home team didn’t wait long to give Bucco Nation something to cheer about.

Marlon Byrd, who was acquired from the Mets in a midseason deal, took Reds starter Johnny Cueto deep to lead off the second inning, and Russell Martin followed suit two batters later, whipping the black-clad crowd into a frenzy.

The two homers gave Pittsburgh an early 2-0 lead in the winner-take-all National League wild-card game, with the winner advancing to face division rival St. Louis in the NLDS.
