Quintin Berry Laments Lack of Facial Hair, Says ‘My Momma Did It to Me’ (Video)

More than a dozen Red Sox players will bring along thick, bushy beards when they take the field Wednesday night for Game 1 of the World Series. Quintin Berry will not be one of them.

The pinch-running specialist is one of the few Sox to remain clean-shaven throughout this season, standing out in a dugout full of bearded giants. But unlike Koji Uehara, who shaves voluntarily, keeping a fresh face was not Berry’s first choice.

“I can’t grow one, man,” Berry told MLB.com’s Ian Kay during World Series media day on Tuesday. “I tried for a little bit, and I had, like, four or five [hairs] coming out on this side and I had, like, six on this side. And it just — it wasn’t helping.

“My momma did it to me. I can’t grow it, man, I’m sorry.”

The aerodynamics of Berry’s beardless mug have served him well, though. The 28-year-old speedster is a perfect 28-for-28 in stolen-base attempts in his career, including two this postseason.
