Thanks to one giant swing from David Ortiz, Steve Horgan joined the likes of LOLCats, the “I like Turtles” kid and Ridiculously Photogenic Guy in an ever-growing group of Internet celebrities and memes.

That’s because Horgan, the Boston Police officer who patrols the Red Sox bullpen at Fenway Park, became something of an overnight pop culture star just by celebrating on the job Sunday night. Horgan is now involved in what’s likely to become an iconic sports image as he celebrated Ortiz’s game-tying grand slam in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.

Within hours of the blast, Horgan became a hot commodity in Boston and around the country as the image of his arms raised in the air perfectly juxtaposed Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter‘s legs hanging in the air as he went over the outfield wall.

Horgan has become so popular, in fact, that he had a news conference Tuesday. See some of the highlights in the video below via Boston.com.
