Red Sox Send Brock Holt, Three Others Home As ALDS Roster Begins to Take Shape

Brock HoltJohn Farrell opened up his news conference on Tuesday by saying that most roster decisions will be announced after the Red Sox get through Wednesday’s workout and simulated game. Four players have already been sent home, though.

Brock Holt, Allen Webster, Steven Wright and Brayan Villarreal will not be considerations for playoff roster spots, according to Farrell.

The news comes as no surprise, but Farrell’s announcement indicates that Jackie Bradley Jr., one player who’s still on the playoff bubble, will remain with the club through at least Wednesday. Bradley figures to be in competition with Matt Thornton and other relievers for Boston’s 25th and final roster spot.

Farrell also mentioned Franklin Morales and Quintin Berry by name during Tuesday’s news conference without being asked specifically about the two. That seems to indicate that there’s a good chance they’ll be on the Red Sox’ ALDS roster, although no official announcement was made.

The Red Sox will open up their ALDS series on Friday at Fenway Park. Boston will host the winner of Wednesday’s wild-card game between the Indians and Rays.
