Ryan Tannehill has been sacked more than any other quarterback in the NFL this season, so the Dolphins needed to do something to protect their franchise quarterback. They finally did on Monday.
The Dolphins beefed up their offensive line by trading for veteran offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie from the Ravens, according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer. The Ravens’ compensation has not been disclosed.
Tannehill was sacked twice more during the Dolphins’ 23-21 loss to the division rival Bills on Sunday, bringing his season total to a league-high 26. The second-year quarterback started off hot this season, jumping Miami out to a 3-0 record. The impact of so many brutal hits seemed to take its toll, though, as Tannehill’s struggled with his accuracy at times and thrown five of his seven interceptions during the Dolphins’ three-game losing streak.
At 34, McKinnie isn’t quite the All-Pro level tackle he was even just a few years ago, but he should at least offer some added protection for Tannehill off the right side of the line. The 12-year NFL veteran was upset with his role in the Ravens’ offense since Baltimore traded for former first-round pick Eugene Monroe from the Jaguars a few weeks ago.
McKinnie spent four years at the University of Miami and owns a home in Miami.
