Cristiano RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo managed to keep his name out of the transfer rumor mill for the last five weeks, but it’s back in headlines because he’s hitting the books.

Ronaldo has reportedly begun taking French lessons — a development which launches new speculation that he is preparing to leave Real Madrid next summer and join Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Mirror.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is believed to be taking French lessons, prompting rumors that Paris Saint-Germain could renew their interest in the winger,” the report says.

“The Read Madrid star has been repeatedly linked with the side from the French capital in recent months, despite signing a new contract this summer.”

Ronaldo signed a new contract in September, which reflects his status as an iconic figure at Real Madrid. The new deal expires in 2018 and makes Ronaldo the highest-paid player in Spanish soccer.

Having tied Ronaldo to a long-term contract, It’s unlikely that Real Madrid would sell its leading player for less than €100 million ($132 million, £84.5 million).

However, PSG is also one of Europe’s richest teams and could meet Real Madrid’s asking price and pay the Portuguese superstar more than the £14.25 million ($22.6 million) per year he currently earns. The Qatari-owned club has been interested in signing Ronaldo for over a year, believing that his arrival would cement PSG’s status among world soccer’s elite clubs.
