Report: Greg Schiano Says Buccaneers Were ‘Laughingstock’ Before His Hiring

Greg Schiano just keeps on making friends down in Tampa.

On the same day that the head coach’s very public feud with Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman finally came to a close with Freeman’s release, Schiano rustled even more feathers with some questionable comments at a breakfast for season ticket holders.

The quotes were released by Bucs-centric blog Pewter Report, and they show that the second-year coach seems to think very highly of himself.

The thing is, though, Tampa Bay’s track record was actually pretty good when Schiano took over prior to last season. Sure, two of predecessor Raheem Morris‘ three campaigns were disasters (3-13 in his first year, 4-12 in his final), but Morris also led the Bucs to a 10-6 finish in 2010 — after which many predicted that Freeman would be the NFL’s next big thing.

In fact, Tampa Bay finished below .500 just twice in the seven years prior to Schiano’s hiring, earning a pair of playoff bids over that span.

Schiano has lost nine of his 10 games. If he doesn’t change his tune soon, he won’t be around for many more.
