The New York Jets fan who appeared to punch a female Patriots fan in the face after the Jets’ 30-27 win over New England looks to have a violent history.

Kurt Paschke, 38, served three years in a New York state prison in the 1990s after being convicted for fatally stabbing a 17-year-old during a fight behind a pizza parlor in Sayville, N.Y., according to a report from the New York Daily News. Paschke was at the game with his mother, Colleen, who says her son wasn’t the aggressor in the post-game fight.

“He was just hitting back to defend himself,” she told the Daily News. “It wasn’t done deliberately. If you see the video, they just went wild.”

In the video, a group seemed to tangle for a bit before a man (Paschke) in a green Wayne Chrebet Jets jersey was pulled away from the throng. That’s when a female Patriots fan lunged at Paschke and swung a few times presumably trying to land a punch.

Paschke then landed a solid blow to the female’s head.

“He’s the victim, really,” Paschke’s mother said on Monday. “He was just concerned for his mother and himself.”
