The Chicago Cubs, who fired Dale Sveum earlier this week, are interested in making Girardi their next manager, per the Chicago Sun-Times.
Now, the Washington Nationals, and possibly the Cincinnati Reds, too, are interested in speaking with the 48-year-old about their managerial vacancy, per Dave Kaplan of WGN Radio.
Girardi is a top candidate for open manager positions because he handles star-player egos very well, he has World Series-winning experience and he gets the most out of his players, evidenced by New York’s respectable 85-77 record in 2013 despite having a roster decimated by injuries to important players.
As an Illinois native, taking the Cubs job and becoming a Chicago hero forever by leading them to their first World Series title in over 100 years seems like an opportunity too good to pass up for Girardi.
