Sebastian Vollmer had to be carted off the field with an apparent leg injury during the Patriots’ 27-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. It appears he’ll miss at least some time with the injury.
The Patriots’ starting right tackle will undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot, according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. There is not yet a timeline for his recovery.
Vollmer’s screams could be heard almost instantly as he got rolled up on by a Dolphins defender during a third-quarter run by Stevan Ridley. The injury to his right leg was serious enough that he had to be fitted with an inflatable splint on the field and taken back to the locker room on the back of a cart.
Vollmer, 29, started all seven games for the Patriots so far this season. He re-signed with the team during the offseason, agreeing to a four-year contract reportedly worth $17 million with an additional $9 million in incentives directly tied to his playing time.
Marcus Cannon replaced Vollmer on the right side of the line on Sunday and will likely take over the starting tackle job, at least for the time being.
