San Jose Sharks rookie winger Tomas Hertl threw his hat into the ring for goal of the year on Tuesday night with a sensational move against New York Rangers goaltender Martin Biron.
On Thursday, Buffalo Sabres star Thomas Vanek gave him some competition. The 29-year-old winger used a similar between the legs move to shoot the puck five-hole, which tied the game at 1-1. Â Making the goal even more impressive is the fact that last year’s Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky was between the pipes.
But to be fair to Bobrovsky, there’s no excuse for one of the league’s most talented forwards to be wide open at the top of the crease. His defensemen fell asleep and it cost the team.
