A match-fixing scandal has rocked Salvadoran soccer recently, but Otoniel Salinas is doing his best to make sure the sport in his country makes headlines for the right reasons.

On Sunday, Salinas scored a world-class solo goal to open the scoring in Atletico Marte’s 3-0 victory against Aguila.

In the 73rd minute, the Marte attacker ran onto a pass in the midfield and proceeded to dribble through a maze of defenders. It’s tough to say exactly how many Aguila players Salinas beat because he dribbled around at least two of them twice. He capped off his 50-yard slalom by cooly slotting his shot past Aguila’s advancing goalkeeper.

Salinas, 28, says it was the best goal of his career, according to FutbolSV.com.

“I think the best of my career so far,” he said. “I think I’ll have to save it in my archives. I think that goal will be one of the best in my life and in my football career.”

The win saw Marte book a spot in the semifinal of Salvadoran soccer’s 2013 Apertura tournament. Marte can only hope Salinas has saved a few more moments of magic for the playoffs.
