The improbable worst-to-first turnaround culminated in the Red Sox storming the field after the top of the ninth inning, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in six games.

Shane Victorino got things rolling for Boston early, drilling a line drive off the Green Monster to bring in three runs and the Sox never looked back. After missing Games 4 and 5 with a lower back strain, the Flyin’ Hawaiian’s presence was surely felt tonight as he came up huge in the third inning and added an RBI single in the fourth inning as well.

In addition to Victorino’s RBI, the Sox tacked on two more runs in the fourth with Stephen Drew knocking out a solo home run and Mike Napoli adding an RBI single of his own.

In the most important game of the season, John Lackey received plenty of run support early on and he responded by pitching an absolute gem. The right-hander tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowed only one run and left the field to a standing ovation and a tip of the cap from No. 41.

Koji Uehara, as dominant as ever, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning and just like that, the celebrations began.
