Shawn Horcoff Called for Hooking Penalty, Gets Two Minutes for ‘You Can’t Do That,’ According to Referee (Video)

Shawn Horcoff has played 12 seasons in the NHL, but every once in a while he still needs to be bluntly reminded of the rules of the game.

During the second period of Saturday night’s matchup between the Stars and the Capitals, the Dallas forward tried to fend off Jay Beagle who was streaking down the ice, and was called for a hooking penalty on the play by referee Mike Leggo. The whistle was immediately met with argument from Horcoff, but Leggo didn’t want to hear any of it.

As Leggo made his way to the center of the ice to announce the penalty, he took the opportunity as a chance to explain why he made the call. He didn’t waste many syllables with his reasoning, opting to go with the simple, yet classic, “You can’t do that.”
