When the Steelers decided to trade for offensive tackle Levi Brown last week, they probably didn’t expect it to end like this.
The Steelers were forced to place Brown on injured reserve on Tuesday, according to ESPN, less than one week after dealing away a conditional draft pick to the Cardinals for the left tackle. Brown didn’t play in a game for the Steelers since the trade. He is signed through the 2016 season.
Brown, 29, injured his triceps in pregame warmups ahead of the Steelers’ 19-6 win against the Jets on Sunday. This marks the second time in two seasons that Brown was placed on IR for a triceps injury. He missed the entire 2012 season after tearing his triceps during the preseason.
The Steelers were hoping Brown would help beef up their offensive line, considering injuries to center Maurkice Pouncey and the struggles of tackles Mike Adams and Kevin Beachum this season. Ben Roethlisberger is the fifth-most sacked quarterback in the NFL this season, going down 18 times through five games. The Steelers will now have to look elsewhere to get help for Big Ben up front.
