Stephen Drew has struggled mightily at the plate this postseason. While his lack of production has left a glaring hole in the Red Sox order, he’s also bailed his teammates out with stellar glove work on several occasions.
One of those came during the fourth inning of Game 5, with hot-hitting Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina at the plate. On a 1-1 count, Molina ripped a two-out line drive off Jon Lester that appeared destined to find grass in left-center field. It instead found the webbing of Drew’s glove, however, as the shortstop went airborne to pull down the liner and wrap up the inning for Lester.
The Sox went to win 3-1, setting up a potential series-clinching Game 6 back in Boston on Wednesday.
