The Philadelphia Flyers have stumbled out of the gates this season, and on Tuesday night, they were able to encompass their entire campaign with one unfortunate play.
The 1-6 Philly team jumped out to a rare lead in the first quarter against Vancouver after Tye McGinn recorded a tally, but their happiness was short-lived as the Canucks knotted up the score seconds later with the gift goal of all gift goals.
Ten seconds after the Flyers goal, Vancouver sent the puck to the other end of the ice. Philadelphia goalie Steve Mason retreated from the net to play the dump-in, but the puck took a strange bounce off the boards, never made it to where the goaltender was patiently waiting for it and instead jumped to the one place on the ice the Flyers really didn’t want it to go — right to the crease where a streaking Ryan Kesler was able to easily tap it in.
