The battle of the Sunshine State lived up to its name on Sunday night.
With the Tampa Bay Lightning in town taking on the Panthers, Florida’s Scottie Upshall upped the ante on their in-state rivalry, messing with the wrong member of the opposing team.
After offsides was called in the second period, Tampa Bay defenseman Radko Gudas wiped out near the Panthers’ bench. One Florida member used the opportunity for some high jinks, squirting the fallen Gudas with his water bottle.
Gudas didn’t take kindly to the action, but he calmly got himself up from the ice before violently taking a whack at Florida’s bench, snapping his stick in the process and earning himself a two-minute minor to go along with a game misconduct.
Florida wasn’t out of the woods, though, as the Panthers were assessed a minor to their bench for the provoking the blue-liner.
