Teemu Selanne to Miss Two Weeks After Taking Stick to Face, Won’t Make Appearance Versus Bruins

The Bruins-Ducks matchup Thursday was supposed to be more than just a meeting of two of the league’s best teams. It was also supposed to mark a stop on the Teemu Selanne farewell tour.

The future Hall of Famer announced prior to the season that this would be his final season. The 21-year veteran was supposed to make his final stop in Boston on Thursday night when the B’s and Ducks play at TD Garden. Selanne will not be playing in that game, though.

Selanne will have to miss two weeks with a facial injury. He took a stick to the mouth Tuesday night in Philadelphia, and he’ll have to sit out for a couple of weeks after having oral surgery to help repair the injury. The 43-year-old needed 40 stitches and lost a few teeth after taking the stick to the face.

The Bruins will play the Ducks again on Jan. 7, but that game will take place in Anaheim. This was the Ducks’ only scheduled trip to the Garden this season.
