Move over, birthers and 9/11 conspiracy theorists. The Baltimore Ravens want in.
For those who think ex-Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis‘ assertions that the Super Bowl blackout last year was no accident are a bit far-fetched, there’s now a corroborating report. Of course, that report comes from a current Baltimore player, and it’s even more poorly framed than what Lewis said, but whatever.
Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs definitely doesn’t think the blackout at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome was simply a power loss, and he says the person to blame is none other than the man who is blamed by NFL players for everything wrong in the league (and maybe the world): NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
“I was like, Vegas, parlor tricks, you know what I mean?” Suggs said during an ESPN interview with Lisa Salters for an E:60 episode airing Tuesday, as reported by The Baltimore Sun. “I was like, ah, Roger Goodell, he never stops, he always has something up his sleeve. He just couldn’t let us have this one in a landslide, huh?”
Salters then asked if Suggs thought Goodell turned the lights out.
“I thought he had a hand in it,” Suggs replied. “Most definitely, he had a hand in it.”
Suggs’ smoking gun was that he saw Goodell talking to Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway during an earlier playoff game.
“I thought, your commissioner is supposed to be neutral,” Suggs said. “He ain’t supposed to be on one side or the other. He’s supposed to be in the box. I saw him on their sideline, and I was like, huh, I know who he’s going for. I think he definitely has his favorites.”
By Suggs’ reasoning, Goodell then had someone turn off the power during the Super Bowl so the 49ers could attempt a second-half comeback, which the Ravens managed to hold off.
Since only a slice of the interview was seen, it’s not known if Salters brought up facts like that Goodell talks to other team’s owners or front-office men, or that Lewis winning the Super Bowl in his final season with the Ravens was viewed as a perfect NFL storyline by some.
She probably didn’t have Barack Obama‘s birth certificate on her, either.
