Tim Thomas’ return to the ice hasn’t been the triumphant homecoming he was hoping for.
After sitting out for the entirety of the 2012-2013 season, the former Bruins goaltender signed a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers. Three games into the season, however, and the goaltender has only played a full 60 minutes for his new team once.
Giving up five goals on 28 shots during the second game of the year, Thomas was pulled early against the Blues. On Tuesday night, history was on track to repeat itself, but this time the man between the pipes was the one who made the call, skating off to the bench after what looked like an apparent injury.
Thomas had given up two goals on the first five shots he faced in the first period of action, but on the second goal, the 39-year-old looked to injure himself. Thomas appeared to be having a hard time getting himself off of the ice and into position to block Braydon Coburn‘s shot, and after it whizzed past him, Thomas skated gingerly toward Florida’s bench. The Panthers have since announced that he suffered a lower body injury, and is not expected to return tonight.
