Tom Brady Depended on Rob Gronkowski Too Heavily Against Jets, Needs to Look to Receivers (Video)

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots offense sputtered on Sunday after looking improved the past few weeks against the Saints and Falcons.

That came as a surprise since Rob Gronkowski was back on the game field for the first time this season. Tom Brady certainly noticed his tight end, as the Patriots signal caller targeted Gronkowski a game-high 17 times. It actually appeared Brady was too focused on Gronkowski as he missed some open receivers, forcing the ball to Gronkowski.

Aaron Dobson had a favorable matchup across from Dee Milliner, but he received just seven targets. Julian Edelman also received just seven targets.

Gronkowski is the best pass catcher on the Patriots, but Brady is at his best when he’s able to spread the ball around. To hear more about New England’s performance against the Jets, watch Patriots writer Doug Kyed discuss the game with’s Nick Underhill in the video above.
