This pretty much just confirms what plenty of people already believe.
Alex Rodriguez lied during Wednesday’s radio interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesa, body language expert Susan Constantine told NJ.com. While A-Rod might have been truthful about some things, his body language during other parts of the interview apparently raised red flags.
“The real important part in all this is that, with a high level of certainty, he was lying,” Constantine reportedly said. “He is covering up at least some of the things that he’s being accused of.”
Rodriguez, who is fighting a 211-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball in August for performance-enhancing drug use, stormed out of his grievance hearing Wednesday — calling it a “farce” — after MLB chief arbitrator Fredric Horowitz determined that commissioner Bud Selig didn’t have to testify in the appeal. Rodriguez went on the air with Francesa shortly after the slugger’s legal team, MLB and the MLB Players Association issued statements.
During his interview with Francesa, A-Rod denied ever taking performance-enhancing drugs from 2010 to 2012, and also said that he never interfered with the league’s investigation into the Florida-based Biogenesis clinic or its founder, Tony Bosch. Constantine, author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Body Language,” isn’t buying his story, though. She told NJ.com that Rodriguez’s movements and evasive responses to certain questions gave him away.
Constantine told NJ.com that her biggest takeaway from Rodriguez’s interview was that he wasn’t definitive when Francesa asked whether he was guilty of any of MLB’s accusations. Rodriguez’s quick no’s, eye contact, shoulder shrug and short giggle apparently indicated that he was lying in some instances. The one thing that Rodriguez was truthful about, according to Constantine, was the stress that this whole situation has caused him.
“That was truthful,” Constantine reportedly said. “It has been extremely difficult for him. When you are ready to hear bad news or have gone through a tough time, you might take a deep breath and push out air.”
Rodriguez is certainly no stranger to blowing hot air.
