Michigan State is atop the AP college basketball poll for the second straight week after improving its record to 6-0 with non-conference wins over Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.
The Spartans, who received 56 first-place votes, have owned the No. 1 spot since a 78-74 victory over then-No. 1 Kentucky on Nov. 12 at the 2013 Champions Classic. Head coach Tom Izzo‘s team looks like a legitimate championship contender with impressive play at both ends of the floor.
The second-ranked team is Kansas. The Jayhawks are 4-0 with a signature victory over then-No. 4 Duke in the 2013 Champions Classic. Kansas is led by freshman phenom Andrew Wiggins, who many experts believe is the top prospect in the 2014 NBA draft class. He’s averaging 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game this season.
Defending national champions Louisville dropped from No. 3 to No. 9 following a 93-84 loss to then-No. 24 North Carolina.
