Bill Belichick has been around football his entire life. He has his father to thank for that.
Steve Belichick was a coach and scout in the college football ranks for more than 40 years, spending 30 of them at the Naval Academy. His commitment to football gave the younger Belichick great knowledge of the game as well as a great appreciation for the values and service of the military.
Steve Belichick passed away in 2005 at age 86, but eight years later, Bill still has fond memories of his years spent learning from his father. The Patriots head coach reminisced about the years he spent with his father and the Navy football team in honor of Veterans Day. Some of his memorable stories include catching passes from former Navy quarterback Roger Staubach and even how he’d be allowed to watch game film with the team if he finished his homework on time as a kid.
