Maine rivals Bowdoin and Colby have been competing on the gridiron since the late 1800s, but no game could top the incredible finish of their 125th and most recent meeting last Saturday.

The teams combined for 34 points in the final quarter of a wild Bowdoin win, with 14 of them coming in the final 12 seconds.

The Polar Bears (one of the great nicknames in college sports) appeared to have the game locked up when quarterback Mac Caputi hit Daniel Barone for a 43-yard Hail Mary on 4th-and-long, giving Bowdoin a 26-20 lead with just three seconds to play.

The home team was assessed a 15-yard penalty when nearly the entire sideline ran onto the field to celebrate the touchdown, however, pushing the ensuing kickoff back to the Bowdoin 20-yard line, and Colby’s Jason Buco cut the deficit to four by returning a blocked PAT 90 yards for two points.

But Colby could muster no more magic. An attempted miracle lateral play on the final kick return was picked off and taken to the house by Bowdoin senior Brian Glazewski, who was playing in his final collegiate game, to put the icing on a 32-22 victory.
