Brandon Meriweather has made headlines all season for all the wrong reasons. Now, after a hefty fine, a one-game suspension and idiotically claiming that he was going to “end careers” by aiming low, the former Pro Bowl safety says his style hasn’t changed.
Meriweather, 29, was suspended earlier this season after delivering a pair of head shots to two different Bears receivers. The ban led to Meriweather changing his tune and claiming that instead of aiming high, he would be angling for opposing players knees instead. That apparently didn’t happen in his first game back, though, as Meriweather seems to have stayed the course.
“I think I played the same,” Meriweather said, via the Washington Post. “I still was aggressive. I aimed a little lower. I celebrated with my team. We got the win…To be honest, I didn’t even think about it. I just went and just let what happens happen. I’m not trying to think about it and say, ‘I’m gonna aim lower. I’m gonna aim higher. I’m gonna do whatever.’ I’m gonna just play and whatever happens happens.”
Meriweather kept his cool this week and didn’t make any egregious hits — although, one was iffy — but the true test will be whether he can keep up the clean play all season.
