Charlotte Hornets blendLovers of 90s Starter jackets, rejoice — the Charlotte Hornets are coming back with their old team colors.

As it was in 1998, the Charlotte Hornets will don the classic purple and teal color scheme that fans once loved, according to the Charlotte Observer. The colors will be accented by black and light shades of grey and blue.

Michael Jordan announced in May that the current Charlotte Bobcats intended to change the team nickname back to the Hornets, and the organization was given the go-ahead by the NBA in July. The original Hornets moved to New Orleans in 2002, and switched names to the Pelicans this season (they also have a frightening mascot).

“We thought it was very important for us to listen to our fans and the overall community. There seemed to be an overwhelming desire to pay homage to the legacy of the Hornets, from their time here before,” Bobcats president Fred Whitfield said. “We listened to our fans, and that’s what led us in this direction.”

During polling of the Charlotte market, 80 percent of people supported a name change to the Hornets and nearly as many supported returning the team colors to teal and purple.
