Daniel Sturridge, Lucas Leiva and Luis SuarezTheir names have dominated the headlines during 2013-14 so far, but Daniel Sturridge insists that there is more to Liverpool than his flourishing partnership with Luis Suarez.

The Reds’ No. 15 has blasted 10 goals in all competitions this season, while his Uruguayan teammate has struck six times in the Barclays Premier League since returning from suspension.

Although the pair have developed an intuitive link through practice and games, Sturridge is keen to explain how the work carried out by the rest of the team makes their job much easier.

“It’s great to play with Luis,” the 24-year-old said. “We give defenders problems and we’re both different. It’s good to have a strike partner you can bounce off.

“We get on well and that’s the most important thing. There is no rivalry there, no hidden agendas.

“We both go out and work hard to help the team. It’s not about the SAS strike-force, it’s about the team. The players behind us work so hard, they make our jobs easy really. We just try to do what we do best.”

In establishing himself as the joint-top scorer in the Premier League, Sturridge has helped the Reds settle into third place in the standings with a quarter of the campaign completed.

“It’s been an amazing start for us,” the England international reflected. “We just need to continue working hard and continue doing what the manager tells us to do and see where we end up at the end of the season.

“I wouldn’t say there is one definitive team in the league who are going to be favorites to win it.

“Everyone in the top six is in the race. There are a lot of teams playing amazing football, including Southampton, who are up there.

“We’ll just stay focused on ourselves and try our best to play good football.”
