A game that featured three of the greatest hockey players of the last 20 years ended in decidedly inauspicious fashion for the Anaheim Ducks.
The matchup between New Jersey’s Jaromir Jagr and Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne — the NHL’s two oldest players and Nos. 10 and 11, respectively, on the all-time goals list — with future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur in net lived up to its billing for 60-plus minutes, with Jagr scoring with 1:01 to play in the third to force overtime.
The Ducks met an embarrassing demise two minutes into the extra session, however. Goalie Jonas Hiller got a pad on the puck that slid toward him off the foot of Travis Zajac, but Ben Lovejoy‘s attempt to clear the puck bounced off the skate of teammate Corey Perry and into the open net.
The own goal wrapped up a 4-3 win for the surging Devils, who have now gone 8-4-2 since dropping their first seven games of the season.
