Ed ReedIt appears Ed Reed had options after being waived by the Texans, but the All-Pro safety chose to join the 5-4 Jets over the 7-2 Patriots.

Reed said New England had contacted him since he became a free agent, but the former Raven and Texan chose familiarity instead.

“Going in there, trying to learn a new system probably would have been difficult,” Reed told the media in New York. “I’m sure they thought about that too.”

Rex Ryan was Reed’s defensive coordinator in Baltimore from 2005-2008 after serving as defensive line coach from 1999-2004. Jets’ defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman also worked with Reed with the Ravens from 2002-2008.

Reed was cut from the Texans Nov. 12. He became a free agent after passing through waivers on Nov. 13.
