ESPN Anchor Apologizes for Comment About Jeremy Lin ‘Cooking With Hot Peanut Oil’ (Video)

Jeremy Lin is playing well again, which apparently means people can go back to saying stupid things.

After Lin dropped 21 points on the Knicks on Thursday — in what was actually his lowest scoring output in almost a week — ESPN SportsCenter anchor Jorge Andres pointed out that Lin was hot. Well, not just hot, but “cooking with peanut oil.”

Andres’ comment was racially-tinged, since many Asian foods are made using peanut oil, but his comment wasn’t so much offensive as it was just plain dumb. Remember, ESPN is the media outlet that twice had to apologize for using the phrase “a chink in the armor” during Lin’s historic run in 2012. Maybe ESPN should sit out a few plays until Lin cools off, just to be safe.
