Perhaps John Tortorella‘s game plan was slightly misunderstood by his team.

The Canucks head coach returned to Madison Square Garden for the first time on Saturday night, but there was no sense of nostalgia clouding Tort’s clear vision of what he wanted to accomplish in New York. Tortorella wanted to “kick their [butt]” and skedaddle, but perhaps Kevin Bieksa heard that he wanted his team to kick something else.

The Vancouver defenseman engaged in a heated bout with Brian Boyle as the game was coming to a close. The Canucks fell to the Rangers 5-2, but Bieksa didn’t want to go home completely winless, so he gave his counterpart a pretty good beating.

Bieksa put an exclamation point on the fight, too, punting Boyle’s helmet down the ice once the referees were finally able to pull the two apart.
