The Brooklyn Nets started the season with two notable additions — Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett — but the team doesn’t seem headed for an NBA title just yet.
After acquiring the future Hall of Famers from the Boston Celtics, the Nets didn’t start the season the way they might have hoped. Brooklyn lost its fifth straight game on Sunday to Detroit, dropping its record to 3-10. Pierce and Garnett watched most of the fourth quarter from the bench as head coach Jason Kidd turned to younger players in an attempt to get more energy on the floor.
To say that expectations of the season have not been met would be an understatement. Garnett even went so far as to say that the team is embarrassed about the way they’ve started, according to ESPN New York.
“I think everybody in here is embarrassed,” Garnett said of hearing boos from the home crowd. “You definitely don’t want that at home.
“I wouldn’t say I am in the best offensive groove, whatever,” Garnett said. “I don’t really care. To be honest, I am not a primary [offensive option] here. Defensively [is] where I am kind of frustrated with myself and [not] being better at that.”
Garnett is averaging six points and nearly eight rebounds in 22.5 minutes a night, and Pierce has contributed an average of 13 points, five rebounds and two assists per game.
