Manny Malhotra Scores First Goal in 19 Months to Give Hurricanes Win in Overtime (Video)

The Hurricanes picked up free-agent center Manny Malhotra solely for his prowess at the faceoff dot, but it was the 33-year-old’s offensive spark that powered Carolina to an overtime win on Tuesday.

Malhotra has averaged roughly a goal every eight games throughout his 15-year NHL career, and he entered Tuesday night’s matchup with the Flyers having not lit the lamp since March 26, 2012. He came up big in the extra session, however, separating Mark Streit from the puck in the neutral zone and beating Steve Mason on the ensuing breakaway to lock up a 2-1 win for the Hurricanes.
