Michigan put on one of the worst offensive displays in school history two weeks ago, and one Wolverines fan took the loss a little too hard.
A 25-year-old Wolverine Lake, Mich., native was found passed out in his car at a gas station in the early morning hours of Nov. 3, according to the Dearborn Press and Guide, shortly after Michigan State handed its in-state rival an embarrassing 29-6 loss.
The man was clearly intoxicated — in fact, his 0.24 BAC was double the state’s official classification of “super-drunk” — and he gave officers an interesting reason for his sorry state.
The man told police that he had drunk so much because was upset with Michigan’s poor plan in the loss and, more specifically, offensive coordinator Al Borges‘ play calling. The Wolverines failed to reach the end zone in the game and finished with negative-48 rushing yards, the lowest total in the program’s 134-year history. That weak ground performance came despite attempting 29 rushes in the contest, including 18 by usual dual-treat quarterback Devin Gardner.
Police arrested the man on drunken driving charges and impounded his vehicle.
Michigan’s luck didn’t get much better the following weekend. The Wolverines rushed for negative-21 yards in a 17-13 loss at home to Nebraska, with the Cornhuskers scoring the game-winning touchdown with just over two minutes to play. Hopefully this guy stayed away from the liquor after that one.
