Oilers, Canucks Trade Chirps on Twitter During Tim Thomas’ Return to Vancouver

Tim Thomas‘ first game back in Vancouver since the 2011 Stanley Cup Final certainly had the Twittersphere buzzing.

Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo was the first to get in on the fun, referencing his infamous “pump his tires” quote in a tweet the night before he was set to face his former Stanley Cup nemesis. It was a funny quip, and one that was not unexpected from a social media aficionado like Luongo.

Then, because Western Conference Twitter accounts are the best, one of the Canucks’ Pacific Division rivals decided to join in with a chirp of its own.

It started when the Canucks sent out this innocent tweet about fans “welcoming” the former Bruins netminder back to Vancouver.

Then, out of nowhere, the Edmonton Oilers snuck in this jab — despite the fact that they were in the middle of a game against the Blue Jackets at the time.

The person manning the Canucks account was game, though, firing this zinger back a few minutes later.

Oh! Burn!

Unfortunately, the Oilers account then quickly turtled.

C’mon, Edmonton. Have some self-respect. The Oilers did get the last laugh, though, steamrolling Columbus 7-0 while Vancouver fell to Thomas’ Panthers in a shootout.
